Notes - Sir Francis, Lt.Col.,who was the British Minister at Kabul in the 1920s. He and Gertie, his wife, managed the evacuation of the British from there in the uprising and for that were both awarded gongs by the King of Afghanistan on a visit to London in 1928. Frank got GCVO and Gertie DBE in her own right. He went on to become KBE, CIE, KCMG.
Gertrude was the daughter of Sir Harold Deane and died in 1982.
